EKU WOMEN THEN & NOW
EKU Women's rugby was founded in 1992 despite lacking popularity of the sport in the US. Since then, rugby has gradually gained support and recognition as a sport in America, known previously as a traditional European game. Our team is DII, and part of the Ohio Rugby Union Conference where we play both fall and spring season games.
On our team we encourage representation of our school, but also the undying traditions carried by the sport itself. Rugby is unlike any other sport, with customs of sportsmanship, respect, and support for other teams. We play hard, then spend a day with our opponents celebrating our sport and our teams' hard work.
Though EKU's team dissipated for about 3 years, we rebuilt ourselves in the fall of 2013. Multiple structural changes of the team since then have led to a massive growth in recruitment, the establishment of a family-like atmosphere, and subsequent winning seasons. In the fall 2017/spring 2018 season, EKU women made it to the round of 32 at 15s nationals, placed 2nd in the competitive division of Nash Bash, won the Miami of Ohio Ruck-Her-Ball tournament, and won the OVC 7s 1st place title!
We will continue to strive for greatness, while representing our university with unwavering maroon pride in the Fall 2018 season. Head to our schedule and results page to see how we're doing!
